Né en Cornouailles, Thomas Pellow est captivé par des corsaires et vendu au sultan Moulay Ismaïl. Il rejoint les milliers d’esclaves employés par le sultan dans ses constructions gigantesques à Meknès. Chez Moulay Ismail, on servait une assiette géante de couscous qui pouvait nourrir 900 personnes ! A son retour en Angleterre, au début du 18ème siècle, Thomas Pellow écrit à propos du couscous : ''C'est un plat nourrissant, savoureux et succulent''.

Born in Cornwall, Thomas Pellow was captivated by corsairs and sold to Sultan Moulay Ismaïl. He joined the thousands of slaves employed by the sultan in his gigantic constructions in Meknes. At the palace of Moulay Ismail were served giant plates of couscous that could feed 900 people ! After his return to England, at the beginning of the 18th century, Thomas Pellow wrote about couscous: '' It is a nourishing, tasty and succulent dish ''.
